2008 Annual Conference
and Theatre Festival in Glenville, W. Va.
October 30 -- November 1, 2008
Open Letter from 2008 Conference
Host, Dennis Wemm:
WVTC has always been a joyful,
energizing and overall fun experience for me. I know
it is for most of you. But this year, for the first
time ever, I get to invite you kids over to play at my
house.
Glenville State College is the host for this year’s WVTC,
and we’re going to do our best to bring you to the heart of
West Virginia.
In addition to the festivals, I’m adding another element.
Since a large portion of the college and high school people
tend to arrive on Thursday evening anyway, I’d like to try
to have a first ever, West Virginia Theatre Education
Summit.
On Thursday evening, I’d like to gather the mentors of the
young people who are the future of theatre in the state to
discuss issues pertaining to teaching theatre in a rural
state that is sparsely populated. I’d like to discuss
the overall effect of NCLB on theatre education in the
state, and possible enlighten some of our young people on
how they can continue the thread of learning into the next
generation.
After an initial public session open to all of the
membership, teacher, student and professor, I would dearly
like to get all of our state’s instructors together to
socialize “on our own.” Teachers and professors,
colleges and high schools have a lot to offer each other.
We deserve to have an opportunity to connect.
Next, obviously, we’ll have the festival performances on
Friday and Saturday. We’ll be continuing the
Undergraduate auditions for high school students interested
in meeting with colleges on Friday afternoon. On
Saturday, as usual, we’ll add our community theatre festival
to the mix and to provide the next winning entry for the
SETC Festival, and begin the SETC Auditions to bring in
colleges as well.
Since WVTC falls on Halloween weekend this year, we’ll
definitely brew something up. Glenville is famous for
its ghosts. You never know just what we might (bwahaha)
DIG UP!
So make plans for October 30-November 1, 2008. We’ll
see you in “the ‘Ville.”
